5 Signs That Your Child Is An Old Soul

Signs That Your Child Is An Old SoulWe have all heard the term “old soul” before, and many of us know someone who seems to have a soul that could be called “old”.

Whether we think of an old soul as being a soul that has lived many previous lives, or as a young soul that behaves as though they are decades older than they are, everybody knows an old soul when they see them.

When it comes to children, it is even easier to pick an old soul out from the crowd if you know what signs to look for. Many parents these days are raising children with old souls and aren’t even realizing it. Here are 5 signs that your child, or a child you know, is an old soul.

Your child asks deep, inquisitive questions

Your child may ask you questions like: “Where do thoughts come from?”, “Where do people go when they die?”, or “Where do I go when I have dreams?”. Some of the questions your child may ask you are so deep and dense that they may take you by surprise.

More than wanting to watch TV, your child wants to have discussions on lifes biggest questions. Be sure to nurture their curiosity. Here is a video showing a child with an old soul discussion the meaning of life and the universe.

Your child is mature beyond their years

Your child understands that things in life don’t always work out as planned. They don’t make a big fuss when they can’t get what they want, and they don’t throw tantrums when they don’t get their way. I remember watching a video on YouTube of children reacting to their parents telling them they ate all of their Halloween candy. Most kids freaked out, but some said: “That’s ok, we’ll get some more next time.”

If your child is compassionate, patience, sympathetic, and can easily forgive other people, you can be sure that they are an old soul.

Your child is gifted in some way

Your child may have verbal, social, musical, or intellectual gifts that far surpass what should be expected for a child of that age. Old souls contain memories and skillsets from past lives, and these memories are impressed upon the soul when it comes into this world. This is why the behaviour of some gifts children have can’t be explained if you only take into account the stimulus they have been exposed to in this life.

A good example of this is a child who learns how to play they piano without ever taking lessons, or who gets straight A’s in school without even trying. Some children are develop gifts with hard work, but some have special gifts without even needing to work for them.

Your child remembers previous lives

If you are uncertain about whether or not reincarnation exists, here is an article summarizing all of the scientific evidence for reincarnation. Some children say things which only make sense if we open ourselves up to the possibility that their soul has lived on earth before. Here are some things children have said about their past lives, according to their parents:

“WHEN MY SON WAS 3, HE TOLD ME THAT HE REALLY LIKES HIS NEW DADDY, HE’S REALLY NICE. MY HUSBAND IS HIS ONE AND ONLY DADDY. I ASKED ‘WHY IS THAT?’. HE REPLIED: ‘MY OLD DADDY WAS REALLY MEAN. HE STABBED ME IN THE BACK AND I DIED. BUT I REALLY LIKE MY NEW DADDY, HE’D NEVER DO THAT TO ME.”

“GETTING MY 2-AND-A-HALF-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER OUT OF THE BATH ONE NIGHT, MY WIFE AND I WERE BRIEFING HER ON HOW IMPORTANT IT WAS SHE KEPT HER PRIVATES CLEAN. SHE CASUALLY REPLIED: ‘OH, NOBODY “SCROOFS” ME THERE. THEY TRIED ONE NIGHT. THEY KICKED THE DOOR IN AND TRIED, BUT I FOUGHT BACK. I DIED AND NOW I’M HERE.’ SHE SAID THIS LIKE IT WAS NOTHING.”

If we don’t just attribute everything our children say to imagination, we may be able to gain new insight to their souls character and history. Here is a list of more things children have said about their past lives.

Your child doesn’t seem to fit in

Your child doesn’t really want to watch television all day like other children. They would rather be in nature exploring and going on adventures. They get distracted easily in school because their imaginations are being suppressed, and they don’t relate to other children well because the playground dynamic just doesn’t appeal to them.

Because they refuse to play social roles and conform to normal societal behaviour, they won’t have many friends in comparison to other children. Don’t feel bad for them though.

Allow them to discover their individuality, and encourage them to pursue their passions and desires in life. Rather than feeling pity for your child from not fitting it, feel proud that they are unique and will grow into happy self-reliant human beings.

These are just some of the signs that your child, or a child you know, is an old soul. The best thing you can do for an old soul is give them space and allow them to learn and discover on your own.

Some kids may be fine growing up in a cookie-cutter environment, but some need the freedom to explore this reality on their own. If you know a child with an old soul, nurture them, encourage them to pursue their unique gifts and passions, and allow them room to breathe.

And don’t dismiss them or disregard them when they have something to say. They just might teach you something.
